The Voice Kids 2020!

In 2016 I was working on the The Voice Uk and was asked if I wanted to get involved with the kids show. I have to admit I was dubious. I was then working mainly with professional Pop Stars and West End performers and, to be honest, the thought of kids belting their way to a winner’s title wasn’t that appealing. I assumed they would be limited in their artistry and all be pretty much of a muchness. How wrong was I?! Day one of auditions brought in child after child with exceptional talent and skill. I was totally surprised by their eclectic music tastes and the diversity of genres they presented to us. I was in, I was invested, this was exciting!

These kids want to improve, they want to progress, they are hungry for knowledge and guidance and they are unafraid to try which is why their journey throughout a series can be incredible. Their confidence grows and many of them go on to achieve further success like record deals and West End shows and this is great to see. But what I have observed is that their drive doesn’t come from the desire to be famous, the need for a chart placement, the chance to promote themselves. It comes from one desire only and that is the desire to sing....they just want to sing! The focus is so simple, so clear and so effective. As adults we complicate everything, overthink it and often miss the ‘why’ we are doing it. There is a lesson to be learnt here!

On Saturday 11th July Series 4 begins on your screens and I am so excited for you to see these singers. They bring their own personalities, quirks, style and energy to their music….and their chat! I love working on this show, I feel so honoured and privileged that I get to work with such amazing talent and have so much fun! They continually teach me and inspire me, (I can now floss, I also never miss hands on a high 5 because I have the secret of how to do it properly!) and they are a refreshing reminder of what is important for a singer…..to ❤️ to sing!

I hope you enjoy it!
